REBOUND READY???

M uch like the rap career of Beverly Hills 90210 actor Brian Austin Green, this one was over before it started.

The 40-7 score wasn’t indicative of the Bears domination over the Bills, and it starts with the line of scrimmage. The offensive like looked helpless but that shouldn’t be harped upon because while Buffalo’s O-line has improved it’s certainly not ready to compete with a top defense like that of Chicago. The defensive line, however, was taken to task as it has been in past weeks. Being blown off the line by five yards on every running play is hardly acceptable yet has happened every game this season.

Larry Tripplette was a nice addition, but he is not the type of player who can single handedly turn around an under-talented bunch. Let’s face it, despite the hype, Ryan Denney and Chris Kelsay are best suited for coming off the bench to replace playmakers, and Tim Anderson doesn’t belong on the field at all. While Aron Shoebel is a nice pass rusher, if a lineman locks into him he’s is easily taken out of the play. The only hope to turn it around is to bring in at least one more defensive lineman who necessitates double teaming on every play. Obviously that won’t happen until the offseason.

Question: Why does J.P. Losman have such a hard time with swing and screen passes? His third interception was the most inaccurate 4-yard pass I’ve ever seen. He must be rushing those throws.

Another question: Are the cornerbacks supposed to be the strength of this team? Maybe the inexperience of the safeties is causing Clements and McGee to take on greater responsibility, but this past week they consistently blew one-on-one coverage.

What’s the best remedy for getting over a debacle like the one in Chicago? Playing the horrid 0-5 Detroit Lions. While their offense, under the tutelage of play calling mad man Mike Martz, is looking competent the defense doesn’t. This is the type of team where the Bills running game could shine.

Look for the Bills to rebound nicely.
